Safety Services and Programs
We’re dedicated to providing a safe experience for the entire Elmhurst University campus community.
A Focus on Crime Prevention
The Department of Public Safety is available 24/7 all year long. Our trained personnel in the Public Safety Dispatch Center answer calls, provide information and coordinate officer response, while our experienced Public Safety Officers patrol the campus, provide safety escorts and respond to calls for service, including emergency and non-emergency situations.
We protect the safety of campus through a variety of services. Here are just a few.
Safety Escorts
If you feel unsafe walking on campus, call Public Safety at (630) 617-3000 or ext. 3000 from any campus phone, and we’ll send a safety escort to walk with you. This service is available 24/7 to students, faculty and staff.
Emergency Blue Light Phones
Emergency phones are programmed to automatically dial Public Safety. Just press the red button, and a public safety officer will be dispatched to your location. Blue light phones are located in the Alexander, Mill Theatre, West Hall and Science Center parking lots.
Safety Education
Public Safety educates the campus community on safety issues through several channels, including:
- Crime-prevention publications, literature and materials.
- Self-defense training sessions
- Training sessions on alcohol and drug awareness
- Presentations to Elmhurst University organizations, departments and groups on a variety of safety and crime-prevention topics
- Alerts and reporting about criminal activity in the area
Safety and security on our campus is a cooperative effort. You can do your part by taking a few simple steps to protect yourself and your belongings. Watch for suspicious activity and report it immediately to Public Safety at (630) 617-3000 or ext. 3000 from any campus phone.
