As part of an effort to honor and increase awareness about veterans and their service to our country, the Elmhurst College Wind Ensemble and American Legion T.H.B. Post 187 will present a joint Veterans Day tribute concert on Sunday, Nov. 11.

The Elmhurst College Wind Ensemble will play patriotic music throughout the program, joined by the American Legion Color Guard and the color guards and members of Elmhurst Boy Scout Troops 82 and 117. Speakers will include Elmhurst Mayor Steven Morley, Elmhurst College President Troy D. VanAken, members of the Elmhurst College Veterans Association and Cmdr. John Scudder from the Elmhurst American Legion.

The concert will include music composed by George M. Cohan in honor of the 100th anniversary of the end of World War I; John Philip Sousa’s Comrades of the Legion, a march Sousa dedicated to the American Legion; a medley of popular music from World War II through the Gulf War; and John Williams’ Hymn to the Fallen, which will be accompanied by a video tribute.

President VanAken said the Veterans Day Band tribute concert will be “a wonderful opportunity to enjoy inspirational, patriotic music and think about how this country’s veterans and active service members, throughout our history, have fought and died to keep us free.”

The tribute concert will be held at noon in Hammerschmidt Memorial Chapel. Admission is free and the public is invited.
