Elmhurst University has launched a scholarship program to reward all transfer students who obtain their associate degree from a community college before transferring to Elmhurst.
The $1,000 per year Associate Degree Award celebrates the academic success of community college students who complete their associate degree, and also recognizes the partnerships built between Elmhurst and community colleges that lead to a seamless transfer process. The first Associate Degree Awards already are being granted to transfer students who will attend Elmhurst University this fall.
“This scholarship is a reflection of Elmhurst’s commitment to removing barriers for community college students who transfer,” said Joianne L. Smith, president of Oakton Community College, in Des Plaines. “This scholarship also acknowledges the value of the associate degree, and recognizes that accomplishment for students who complete their degree prior to transferring.”
On average, 75 to 80 percent of Elmhurst’s incoming transfer class each year come from community colleges, and Elmhurst recruits students from all of northern Illinois’ approximately 18 community colleges. A longtime member of the Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society’s Transfer Honor Roll, the University offers students generous financial aid packages and innovative admission options to facilitate a smooth transfer process.
“We greatly value the contributions that transfer students make on our campus, and we’re proud of the partnerships and programs we’ve established to create a streamlined, affordable path here,” said Elmhurst University President Troy D. VanAken. “We hope the Associate Degree Award will be one more way to enable even more students to achieve their goals and dreams.”
