Elmhurst University has been named to Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society’s 2020 Transfer Honor Roll, in recognition of the outstanding programs Elmhurst has created to support community college transfer students.
Elmhurst is one of only 122 colleges and universities across the U.S. that were named to Phi Theta Kappa’s 2020 Transfer Honor Roll, which rewards excellence in the development of pathways for students transferring from a community college to a four-year institution of higher learning.
“The Transfer Honor Roll reflects the growing importance of recognizing and responding to the needs of transfer students,” said Phi Theta Kappa President and CEO Dr. Lynn Tincher-Ladner. “This award is given to four-year colleges and universities with proven outcomes for transfer success. They are the best at providing a supportive and smooth transition from community college—equating to increased rates of bachelor’s degree attainment for transfer students.”
“Elmhurst University has always valued transfer students as very important members of our University community, so it’s sensational that an outside organization that works solely with transfer students and community colleges thinks so highly of what we’re doing,” said Michelle Adams, senior director of transfer admission and articulations.
The Transfer Honor Roll recognizes four-year colleges and universities that have developed transfer pathways leading to success among community college transfer students. The honor is awarded to the top 25 percent of colleges and universities that earned the highest Transfer Friendliness Ratings on their profile in PTK Connect.
The profile considers a college’s admission practices, available student scholarships, majors and areas of study, campus life, transfer credit information and other factors. It is meant to reflect what the transfer student experience is like at that college, as well as the strategies the college takes to support and enroll transfer students.
“This award acknowledges that Elmhurst University has truly adopted a transfer-friendly culture,” Adams said. Elmhurst enrolls more than 500 new transfer students each year.
PTK Connect is Phi Theta Kappa’s online tool that helps students find their best-fit colleges, career pathways and more. Students can search for colleges by name, scholarship offerings or cost, and they can use the institutions’ profiles to help evaluate where they’d like to enroll.
