Dear Elmhurst University Community:
We are pleased to report that our campus has experienced a similar decline in positive COVID-19 cases that we have witnessed beyond campus. A total of 15 positive cases were reported since our last update on February 11. Our continued thanks for all the steps you are taking to keep yourself and others safe.
Masking Policy
We have been receiving numerous questions about any planned changes to our masking policy. Following the Illinois Governor’s announcement that he will be lifting the mask mandate on February 28, the COVID-19 Task Force met to discuss how to proceed with our campus mask policy in a way that best serves the overall wellbeing of our University community. After thoughtful consideration, our current plan is to maintain our current mask policy (i.e., masks required in University-owned and -operated facilities) until at least Spring Break, March 18, 2022. As we approach that date, the COVID-19 Task Force will be studying the impact of the state-wide mask mandate rollback and will make a recommendation to the President about how the University should proceed after Spring Break. An email with this information will be sent to the campus ahead of March 18.
Overall, we have successfully navigated this pandemic because we have followed the guidance of government and public health agencies, informed by what the science indicates are appropriate steps. As we move forward, we will continue to follow this guidance. Please continue to do your part to protect your fellow Bluejays by wearing properly-fitted masks, staying home when you are not feeling well, and washing your hands often.
