Boren and Boren Summer STEM Scholarships
For: First-Years, Sophomores, Juniors
Funds up to $20,000 to studying abroad in a non-traditional location to learning a language crucial to national security. Boren Summer STEM provides up to $8,000 for a summer study abroad to learn a language critical to U.S. security. security (Azerbaijani, Bangla, Hindi, Indonesian, Korean, Punjabi, Swahili, Turkish, Urdu, Arabic, Persian, Chinese, Japanese, and Russian). U.S. citizenship required.

Critical Language Scholarship
For: All Class Levels
This summer program provides 8 to 10 weeks of fully-funded overseas language instruction and cultural immersion to study a language critical to U.S. national). Awardees are expected to continue their language study and apply it in their future professional careers. U.S. citizenship required.

DAAD Awards
For: All Class Levels
DAAD offers scholarships for study, internships, research in Germany ranging from 3-week summer courses to a full academic year. Focus is mainly on the German language, and German literary, cultural, politics, and economics. U.S. citizenship required.

Fulbright Teaching Assistant (ETA)
For: Graduate Level
Provides the opportunity to serve as an ETA to help teach the English language while serving as a U.S. cultural ambassador in one of more than 140 countries worldwide. The teaching level ranges by country, from kindergarten to the university level. The program currently awards approximately 2,000 grants annually in all fields of study. U.S. citizenship and university endorsement required.

Fulbright U.S. Student Program (Study Grant and Research Grant)
For: Graduate Level
Funds a post-graduate year of study, research, or English teaching assistantship in over 140 countries worldwide. Study grant requires admission to the selected graduate program. Research grant requires the student to propose independent research and secure affiliation in the host country. U.S. citizenship and University endorsement required.

U.S.-U.K. Fulbright Summer Institute
For: First-Years, Sophomores
Funds 3- to 4-week programs at universities across the United Kingdom. Each program has a particular focus. All programs are educational, cultural, and social, and encourage students to pursue leadership and informal ambassadorial roles. U.S. citizenship, 3.7 +GPA, and minimal international travel experience required.

Provides funding for study abroad in East or Southeast Asia for students demonstrating financial need.

Udall Scholarship – Environment
For: Sophomores, Juniors
Awards $7,000 to sophomores and juniors committed to conservation or environmental issues, tribal health, or tribal governance. Includes a week-long summer seminar and significant mentoring/networking component. Requires university endorsement.

National Science Foundation GRFP
For: Graduate Level
Provides a $37,000/year stipend and $12,000/year cost-of-education allowance for up to 3 years of research-based study leading to an M.S. or Ph.D. in science, engineering, social science, or STEM education in eligible STEM fields at an accredited US institution. The NSF strongly encourages under-represented populations and persons with disabilities to apply.

Payne International Development Fellowship
For: Graduate Level
Provides up to $96,000 in benefits to students pursuing a master’s degree relating to international development, or area of relevance to the work of the USAID Foreign Service. The university must be approved by the Payne program. Recipients are obligated to 5 years of work for USAID following the graduate program. U.S. citizenship required.

Thomas R. Pickering Foreign Affairs Fellowship & Charles B. Rangel International Affairs Fellowship
For: Graduate Level
These fellowships award up to $42,000 annually for a two-year master’s degree relevant to foreign service/international/diplomatic affairs. Also provides internships and professional development for foreign service. Fellows will also participate in 2 summer internships. Encourages the application of minority groups underrepresented in Foreign Service, women and those with financial need. U.S. citizenship required.

Public Policy & International Affairs (PPIA) Fellowship

Fellows participate in a seven-week Junior Summer Institute and receive a minimum $5,000 scholarship for graduate study in public policy or international affairs at a PPIA-affiliated institution. Open to U.S. citizens, permanent residents, or DACA recipients.

Awards up to $30,000 for graduate studies to students who are interested in careers in public service (government work, uniformed service, education, and work at public service-oriented non-profits). U.S. citizenship and University endorsement required.

Soros Fellowships for New Americans
For: Graduate Level (Available to Non-U.S. Citizens)
Provides a $90,000 merit-based fellowship exclusively for immigrants and children of immigrants. Funds up to 2 years of graduate study, $20,000 per year tuition costs (up to $40,000) and a $25,000 stipend per year (up to $50,000). Open to U.S. citizens, permanent residence card holders, asylees, refugees, and students who completed high school and college in the U.S.

Phi Kappa Phi Fellowship
For: Graduate Level
Awards 50 fellowships of $8,500 each, six at $20,000 each, and two at $35,000 each to PKP members entering the first year of graduate or professional study. Elmhurst University may select one candidate from the Elmhurst applicants to compete for these awards.
