Jennifer Mather
Jennifer Mather, lyric soprano, has enjoyed a diverse professional singing career in opera, operetta, musical theater, jazz and commercial singing as well as Concert and major symphony Choral works. Performance venues range from Carnegie Hall (New York), Severance Hall (Cleveland Orchestra), Orchestra Hall (Chicago), Phoenix Symphony, Ravinia, Blossom Festival, San Francisco Opera and the Arizona Opera Company to more contemporary showcase venues as St. Louis Jazz Festival, New Orleans Jazz Festival, The Chicago Pump Room, Navy Pier, Grant Park and The Park West to name a few.
Favorite roles include shows such as Cosi Fan Tutte, Marriage of Figaro, Dialogue of the Carmelites, The Tender Land, Pirates of Penzance, The King and I, Guys and Dolls, The Sound of Music and Cinderella. Some of her own recent creative projects include starring in two long running Cabaret shows: “Way Off Broadway” and “A White Christmas”. A recent review stated the cast as “highly trained professionals with extensive stage experience, whose excellence of craft is exceeded only by their charisma and group chemistry.”
Professional recordings include Cleveland Symphony Orchestra Chorus “Carols and Song”, Robert Shaw “Many Moods of Christmas” and Robert Shaw’s “Bach Cantata’s”; Vocal Point a cappella CD “Voices of Reason” and commercial voice overs for corporations such as Sheraton, Keebler, Chase and Sanborn, American Airlines and Hallmark.
Jennifer has been a voice professor on the faculty of Elmhurst University for 21 years teaching Classical and Musical Theater Voice. She has continued her interest in directing and staging by teaching the course in Opera Scenes and Light Opera and Musical Theater. She also enjoys working with professional singers in the Chicagoland area and Midwest as they pursue and maintain their careers. She is an active judge at vocal competitions throughout the U.S. and has given master classes on subjects such as “Vocal Techniques for the Classical and Musical Theater Professional”, “Interpretation: Art Song from an Actor’s Perspective” and “Healthy Vocal Techniques for the Solo Singer in a Choral Atmosphere”.
To continue her interest in diversifying her career, Jennifer has worked as a stage director and choreographer. She is currently the Choreographer for the “Allegro” violin ensemble and has just completed a professional Concert Tour with the “League of Nations, Astonishing Strings” to seven major cities in China.
Jennifer received her undergraduate degree from the University of Illinois in Champaign/ Urbana and her Master’s in Vocal Performance from Northwestern University in Evanston.
