F-1 Student Visa Information
What is an F-1 Student Visa?
The F-1 student visa is a non-immigrant visa that allows international students to enter the US and study at institutions certified by the Student and Exchange Visitor Program (SEVP).
As an F-1 student, the duration of your stay will vary based on the program in which you enroll. The I-20 form provided by the university you wish to attend will list the expiration date of your program.

F-1 Visa Maintenance and Renewal
As an F-1 student, you are responsible for maintaining your own F-1 visa status. You must adhere to all government guidelines. Please be aware that any violation of federal regulations can result in the termination of your F-1 visa status.
Your F-1 visa is used to enter the U.S. Once you are in the U.S. you may stay here past the expiration date on your F-1 visa as long as you are maintaining your F-1 status. However, if you wish to travel abroad you will need to obtain a new F-1 visa to re-enter the US. Please discuss with your DSO/PDSO well in advance of any planned travel.
Always remain aware of your visa expiration date. Please follow these instructions to renew your visa.
