Barbara Masters
Barbara Masters has had an extensive career as performer, church musician, accompanist, teacher, musical theater director and composer. She has performed with the Warren Chamber Orchestra and served as theater musical director at Packard Music Hall, Youngstown Playhouse and Kent Summer Stock in Ohio.
Masters’ original full-length ballet, Alice in Wonderland scored for chamber orchestra was performed for two seasons by Ballet Theater Ohio. She currently serves as music director and organist of Visitation Catholic Church in Elmhurst and recently led the Visitation Choir to Rome where the group performed for Pope Benedict at the Vatican.
She has served as instructor at Brown University and Youngstown State, vocal music teacher in schools in Massachusetts, Rhode Island and Ohio and maintained a private piano and voice studio throughout her career. She has been adjunct professor at Elmhurst University since 2004.
Her training includes two years in Ann Arbor at the University of Michigan, piano study with Reid Nibley; B.M. in piano from Boston University with study under Alfred Kanwischer, Bela Nagy and Maria Clodes; M.A from Brown University in ethnomusicology under Bonnie C. Wade and Fredric Lieberman; M.M. in organ performance at Youngstown State under Dr. Ronald Gould and harpsichord study with Marcelline Hawke. She holds a colleague certificate from the American Guild of Organists.
