A. Andrew Das
Dr. Das has been listed among twenty-five leading Pauline theorists of the last century in the textbook Perspectives Old and New on Paul. Another recent text, Approaches to Paul, devotes a section to his work. He represented one of the schools of Pauline studies in Perspectives on Paul: Five Views (Baker, 2020). He wrote the essay introducing the undisputed Pauline letters in the Oxford Handbook of Pauline Studies (2022).
He has authored several books with leading publishers in biblical studies: Solving the Romans Debate (Fortress, 2007), Paul and the Jews (Hendrickson, 2003), Paul, the Law, and the Covenant (Hendrickson, 2001), Galatians (808 pages, Concordia Academic, 2014), and Paul and the Stories of Israel: The Grand Thematic Narratives of Galatians (Fortress, 2016). He co-edited and contributed to The Forgotten God: Perspectives in Biblical Theology (Westminster John Knox, 2002), and Scripture, Texts, and Tracings in Romans (Lexington/Fortress Academic, 2020), Scriptures, Texts, and Tracings in 2 Corinthians and Philippians (2022).
Most recently, Dr. Das is authoring Remarriage in Early Christianity, which is forthcoming from Eerdmans in 2024. He is co-editing Scriptures, Texts, and Tracings in Galatians and 1 Thessalonians (Lexington/Fortress Academic), also to appear in 2024. He is contracted to write the Contextual and Critical Commentary on 1 and 2 Thessalonians (Cascade) and the Evangelical Exegetical Commentary on Romans (Lexham Press).

Dr. Das is also researching the key women and their leadership in the Pauline communities and writings. He served as a founding steering committee member and then as co-chair of the Society of Biblical Literature’s Scripture and Paul Seminar (2016-2022). He has presented his work at the annual meetings of the Society of Biblical Literature, the Chicago Society of Biblical Research, the Institute for Biblical Research, the international Studiorum Novi Testamenti Societas, of which he is an elected member, and the Evangelical Theological Society. He is also a member of the Catholic Biblical Association of America. He was one of a handful of western scholars invited to deliver a paper at the inaugural meeting of the Society of Biblical Scholars, the new organization for biblical scholarship on the African continent. He has published in and served on the editorial board of the biblical studies journal Sapientia Logos and the Journal for the Study of Paul and His Letters. His labors throughout the entirety of the New Testament are reflected in the Christian Standard Bible (CSB), a translation released in 2017; he continues to serve on its Translation Oversight Committee. He has authored for wider audiences Baptized into God’s Family (Northwestern, 1991; second edition, 2008) and is seeking publication of Dinner with the Doctor: Time Travel to the Evangelist St. Luke.
Dr. Das received graduate degrees from Yale University and Union Theological Seminary in Virginia. He also did doctoral work at Duke University. He teaches in biblical studies, early Christianity and Second Temple Judaism. He served for five years as the Assistant Dean for Assessment and Accreditation, including Elmhurst University’s thoroughly positive Federal Compliance Review and reaffirmation from the Higher Learning Commission in 2018.
