The Elmhurst College Wind Ensemble and American Legion T.H.B. Post 187 will join forces on Nov. 11 to present a Veterans Day tribute.
The event, to be held on the Elmhurst College campus, will include patriotic music selections, an American Legion Color Guard and guest speakers, and is intended to become a communitywide Veterans Day tradition.
“This tribute will honor veterans and serve as a reminder of the sacrifices made every day for our freedom,” said James Hile, an assistant music professor at Elmhurst College who will direct the Wind Ensemble. The annual event previously was held at the American Legion Post for its members, but this year organizers decided to expand its scope and share it with the Elmhurst community, he added. The music will include selections ranging from the American War of Independence to the Gulf War.
“We are thrilled to present this concert as a way to bring our entire community together to honor and celebrate our veterans and active military service members, people who are our fathers and mothers, sisters and brothers, neighbors and fellow citizens,” said Peter Griffin, chair of the Elmhurst College music department.
The Veterans Day tribute will be held at noon on Saturday, November 11, in Hammerschmidt Memorial Chapel. Admission is free and all are welcome.
