Research and Internships
As a CSIS student at Elmhurst, you’ll benefit from a high degree of individual attention from world-class scholars, combined with exciting opportunities not usually found at a small, private liberal arts institution.
Research
Students often are involved in faculty research projects that offer learning experiences in high performance computing, image processing and data science that simply are not available to undergraduates at larger institutions. It’s valuable experience that gives you a head start in the job market. Students have collaborated with faculty doing research in parallel programming using multi-core and many core systems, such as GPUs and clusters. Other research has been in areas of artificial intelligent planning agents and visual recognition systems.
Internships and Mentoring
You’ll gain first-hand experience through internships and field experiences at some of the Chicago area’s leading firms and organizations. Our campus is located near the renowned Argonne and Fermi national laboratories, along suburban Chicago’s technology corridor. Our CSIS students gain valuable experience at national laboratories like Argonne, and at corporations such as Americaneagle.com, IBM, Computer Science Corporation (CSC) and more.
What’s more, members of our special alumni advisory board are available to serve as mentors to current students. The board also serves as an informal alumni network to help students launch their careers.
