A professor of philosophy, women’s studies and African American studies at Pennsylvania State University, Shannon Sullivan teaches and writes at the intersections of feminist philosophy, critical philosophy of race, American pragmatism and continental philosophy.

Sullivan will present Gender, Race and the Future of Education on March 18 at Elmhurst College, as this year’s Genevieve Staudt Intercultural Lecture.

Sullivan is the author of Revealing Whiteness: The Unconscious Habits of Racial Privilege and the forthcoming Good White People: The Problem with Middle Class White Anti-Racism. She currently is completing a book on the physiology of racist and sexist oppression. Sullivan received her bachelor’s degree from Trinity University, and her M.A. and Ph.D. from Vanderbilt University.

The Genevieve Staudt Intercultural Lecture is delivered annually during Women’s History Month at Elmhurst College. It is named for the College’s former dean of students, who served the College for 30 years and left an indelible stamp of leadership.

Sullivan’s talk will begin at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday, March 18, in the Founders Lounge of the Frick Center. Admission is $10. Tickets are available online or at the door, depending on availability. For more information, call (630) 617-3390.
