U.S. Senator Mark Kirk, the Republican senator from Illinois, will discuss America’s Challenges: At Home and Abroad during the Eighth Annual Elmhurst College Governmental Forum on April 9.
Chicago Tribune Editorial Page Editor Bruce Dold will serve as the moderator.
The Elmhurst College Governmental Forum is one of the region’s most widely respected venues for the discussion of the vital economic and governance issues facing Illinois. The Governmental Forum brings together highly accomplished governmental and civic leaders, business experts and policy analysts to offer their insights on topics ranging from how to foster long-term economic growth to how to resolve the state’s fiscal crisis.
In previous years, the Forum has welcomed former Illinois governors Jim Edgar and James Thompson, Speaker of the Illinois House of Representatives Michael J. Madigan and Business Roundtable President John Engler, among many others.
The Eighth Annual Elmhurst College Governmental Forum will be held on Thursday, April 9, at the Drury Lane Conference Center, 100 Drury Lane, in Oakbrook Terrace. The Forum begins with networking at 11:30 a.m.; lunch and the program begin at noon. Admission is $40 and includes lunch. The public is invited to attend. Tickets are available online.

Mark Kirk has been one of Illinois’ two U.S. senators since November of 2010. Senator Kirk serves on the committees for appropriations, banking, HELP (Health, Education, Labor & Pensions) and Aging. He also is the ranking Republican on the Appropriations Subcommittee for Military Construction and Veterans Affairs. Before his election to the Senate, Kirk served five terms in the U.S. House of Representatives as a congressman for Illinois’ 10th Congressional District. Prior to his first election to the House in 2000, he worked on the staff of his predecessor, Congressman John Porter, and also served as counsel to the House International Relations Committee.
Bruce Dold is the Pulitzer Prize-winning editorial page editor of the Chicago Tribune. He joined the Tribune in 1978 as a reporter and covered city, state and national politics. Dold joined the editorial board in 1990 and became editorial page editor in 2000. Dold wrote a weekly column for the Tribune from 1995 to 2000 and was awarded the Pulitzer Prize for editorial writing in 1994. Under his direction, the editorial board has won a dozen national awards, including the Pulitzer in 2003. A graduate of Northwestern University, Dold was ranked among Chicagomagazine’s 2012 list of 100 Most Powerful Chicagoans.
