About Elmhurst University

Welcome to Elmhurst University

Located just west of Chicago, Elmhurst University combines a well-rounded academic experience with a focus on practical, hands-on learning. In our inclusive community, students gain the knowledge, skills and confidence to excel.

Who We Are

Founded in 1871, Elmhurst attracts students from across the nation and around the world. In our inclusive community, students collaborate with faculty members who are scholars, practitioners and passionate teachers. Our students develop a versatile skillset that sets them up for enduring success in their career and beyond.

On July 1, 2020, we officially changed our name from Elmhurst College to Elmhurst University. The change more accurately reflects Elmhurst’s current educational profile as a comprehensive higher education institution offering undergraduate and graduate programs in the liberal arts and applied sciences, while anticipating opportunities for new programs and partnerships.

Elmhurst University is one of the best in the Midwest, according to U.S. News & World Report; and Money and Forbes magazines consistently rank Elmhurst as one of the Midwest’s best values in higher education.

As part of our continuing efforts to build a more equitable and inclusive community, the University recently achieved designation as a Hispanic Serving Institution, or HSI. The designation opens the door to new opportunities to provide our Hispanic and Latino/a students with a successful Elmhurst experience. This in turn will benefit students, families and the University community as a whole.

We are proud to share more about our institution and all that it has to offer. Schedule a visit to campus or request more information online.
