COURSE OBJECTIVE: To prepare students for the MTH 162 or MTH 121 courses.
Text: Mathematical Applications for the Management, Life, and Social Sciences, Eighth Ed. Harshbarger & Reynolds
Material to be covered:
Chapter Time (in weeks) Tests
0 4 100 points
1, 4.1 4 100 points
2, 5.1, 5.2 4 100 points
Some of 6 (Depends on time)* 2 50 points*
Homework, Quizzes: 100 points
Final Examination 200 points
─────
600 or 650* points
The Homework grade is based on a percentage of the total possible Homework points. The SEMESTER GRADE is based on a percentage of the total available points: 90% and above is an "A", below 90% and 80% or above is a "B", below 80% and 70% or above is a "C", below 70% and 60% or above is a "D", and below 60% is an "F". The last two tests and the final examination may include "out of class" portions.
QUIZ POLICY: All quizzes for grades will be announced. Any missed quiz grade will be replaced by the appropriately scaled grade of the test immediately following the missed quiz.
HOMEWORK POLICY: There is a one class-day grace period for late homework to receive full credit. You may work with others on the homework problems.
REPLACEMENT TEST POLICY: If you take all of the 100 point tests on the announced dates, the final examination may be used to replace at most one grade from a test. There will be NO MAKE-UP TESTS ALLOWED. If you miss a test, the score (based on 100 points) for the final examination will serve as your score for the missed test(s), and only the missed one(s) will be replaced.
Final Examination: Friday, December 12, 2008 from 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm.
Academic Integrity Policy:
Students are expected to be familiar with the Code of Academic Integrity in the Elmhurst College E-book and with the statement posted at http://www.elmhurst.edu/~mth/acadint.html. In particular:
● You may work with others on your homework. (Homework that is graded need not be all of your own work).
● Tests are to be your own work (no help from others or other sources unless specifically stated otherwise -- e.g. "group" work section, "open book," and "open notes ").
● For projects and other group work, the group is to be treated as an individual on a test.
● On tests and projects you may always ask questions of me.
Notes:
